Lesson 4
Go ahead and do lesson 4 in your text: retouching and repairing. Especially good for zit removal! You may try a few photos you may have that you'd like to retouch. Be sure to watch the movie in the Scott Kelley folder on your CD called Photoshop CS2 excerpts. It shows you how to use the clone stamp tool, a very useful feature to know how to use. Practice with the files I just put in course documents and also attached here. Use the information you learned in lesson 4. Also is included are a few files to practice with the red eye tool, located under the little bandaid. To use it, look ahead to ch 8, pages232, 233. Feel free to submit your own before and after photos, retouched. We'll do more advanced work in lesson 8. For now, have fun!

Lesson 5-Selections
This lesson will help you learn how to use some selection tools. Do this lesson and submit the layered file collage. Read below how to change the image size for me though. I do not need a huge file. You will do more after lesson 6 so no procrastinating!

Turn in all your files using a "zipped" (or archived on a Mac) file. See extra info below.

We have not talked much about file sizes yet but create your work using about 150 pixels per inch to start. Before you send the completed file to me, save your original file and then "save as" and put your name on it. Then go to image (top bar) image size and decrease the pixels to 72 ppi so the file will not be huge.  The reason we want to do it this way is because your collage may turn out so well you want to print it. The 72 ppi will not print as well but monitors only "see" a maximum of 96 ppi.

Lesson 6-Layers

Do lesson 6 in our book, including the video tutorial called Photoshop for Kids, pages 184 &185 and also on the CD. Be sure you create a different one that the final examples shown in the book or on the CD. His files have many parts of costumes to choose from.

In addition, create your own 8 1/2 X 11 collage using at least 5 items. It can be of anything you wish but it has to be a layered Photoshop file. Don't use internet images unless they are the Adobe stock photos that they let you try. However, I would rather you take your own photos just in case the collage turns out well. Then you can say "it's my own creation!" What can you do? How about the things in your pocket or on your dresser or on a table. Make yourself into some fantasy character like Photoshop for Kids video. Use his parts and your own photo. There are no limits to what you can do.

Lesson 7

Do lesson 7 as it in in the book BUT DO NOT FLATTEN IT. I want to see your layers and channels.

Lesson 8

Do lesson 8 and submit your lesson files. Be sure you make the pixels 72 per inch (not the 300 pixels per inch that they are on your CD).

7-8 Extra practice

Extra practice assignment after you finish chapters 7 and 8 and watch the video on your CD (ScottKelby) about how to use the clone stamp tool:

Create another collage, poster or even a web or print design using at least 4 pictures that you combine into one, like you did for the lesson in the book. Be sure you utilize most all  the tools and effects you have learned so far. Create your original file any size you wish but when you turn in your file, be sure it is no larger than 72 pixels per inch and 6 inches in any one direction, saved with layers and channels that I can see. Some examples of this are on my website: http://www.pam-harris.com/students-pg3.htm

Note: The reason you want a large starting file is if you like it and wish to print it you will be glad you have a high quality file.
